Book excerpt: The EU and its partner countries from the eastern and southern Mediterranean regions celebrated in November 2020 the 25th anniversary of the launch of their partnership (the so-called 'Barcelona Process'). This was a timely opportunity to reflect on the strategic partnership with the region, in light of the political, socioeconomic, financial and environmental challenges exacerbated by the COVID-19 pandemic, and reassess our partnership with our southern neighbourhood partner countries. Following consultations with partners, this reflection will result in the 'Joint communication on the renewed partnership with the southern neighbourhood' in February 2021.
