Book excerpt: "The regional hydrologic importance of the Sunshine Valley of northern Taos County, New Mexico, is belied by its remote location and sparse population. This is due to the large increase in flow of the Rio Grande in the reach adjacent to Sunshine Valley, and the transfer of 1,752 acre-feet per year of water rights downstream from the valley as part of the Aamodt Settlement Agreement. There has been no detailed hydrologic investigation of the region since the 1950s. This study integrates new physical and chemical hydrologic data, field geophysical investigations, and previous work and historical data to elucidate the hydrologic regime in the valley and document changes to the groundwater system since the 1950s. A hydrologic conceptual model and water budget for the aquifer system were prepared."--Agency website.
