Insights on the pathophysiology and mechanisms of constipation are provided by studying Hirschsprung disease, mitochondrial cytopathy, or multiple endocrine neoplasia type 2B. These diseases are used to illustrate the congenital diseases of the enteric neuromuscular apparatus"--
