Book excerpt: The radiation from the elements in a cylindrical phased array is analyzed theoretically and experimentally. The theoretical investigation has developed a multimodal analysis method for cylindrical arrays. The method is similar to that for plane arrays, whereby, the field inside the element is represented as the superposition of a set of waveguide modes. The method allows the definition and the precise evaluation of the driving point admittance of the elements. A comparison between the driving point admittance in planar and cylindrical arrays is made and the conditions for the use of Wheeler simulators for cylindrical array element design are set. (Author).
