Book excerpt: The vision of Pervasive Computing is to develop context aware applications providing information and communication services to users. The context aware applications need to compose appropriate services adapting to the changes in the environmental context. The existing approaches used to combine services do not consider the contextual knowledge or are not capable of working with the frequently changing context, which is imperative in Pervasive Computing. Considering the drawbacks of the exiting approaches and the requirements of the context aware applications, we have developed a new approach, called Group based service discovery and composition (CGDC). The results obtained from the CGDC prototype demonstrate that this approach is scalable and capable of adjusting to the changes in the environment.
