These include enzyme inhibitors (reverse transcriptase, protease, glucosidase), inhibitors of gene expression (oligonucleotides), viral-binding inhibitors (anionic compounds and CD4 mimetics) and various plant derived products. A focus of this book is the medicinal chemistry of these classes of compounds. In addition, other areas that are pertinent to drug development are also addressed. These include HIV regulatory proteins, the development of anti-HIV-1 assays and resistance to anti-HIV-1 agents.
