I have since carefully read official reports from both sides, and also some accounts that were not official, without finding anything to suggest that what I had already written was incorrect. Until a military history of the war is compiled, perhaps my version of the fighting with General Kuroki will be acceptable as being the narrative of an eye-witness. The chapter on artillery was written before the Government decided to re-arm, and has been left in the book to show how, in respect to artillery, the country has been served by those responsible for its armament, and how we stand in relation to foreign Powers until the new guns are provided.
