Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: With the rapid growth in the use of electronics, more studies are focusing on the tribological performance of electrical connectors. This research aims to develop an electrical circuit with a reciprocating wear test machine to study the tribological performance of various thicknesses of tin and copper layers to reduce metal oxidation of the electrical conductor. Several types of tests were carried out to evaluate the tribological performance of various coatings. The results indicated that adhesive wear occurred during sliding, and adhered particles lead to two-body abrasive wear. Then when the adhered particles break away, three-body abrasive wear is produced. The tin oxide was formed on the original samples, which caused the tribological performance to decrease. The electroplated nickel layer had no significant contribution to samples' tribological performance. For the study of the intermetallic compounds, nickel positively affects the intermetallic compounds (IMC) formation. Original electroless plated nickel samples displayed excellent tribological performance. Except for electroless plated Ni, all the heat-treated test samples showed an enhanced tribological performance as compared to the original test samples.
