Perhaps he was fortunate in select ing Illinois as his home. It seems to me that the time has come for a more positive answer. I believe that Lincoln would have been a great man if he had lived in another State, but that Illinois contributed to his making some ele ments which were of particular significance, and which may have been indispensable to his preparation for the particular work to which God and the Nation called him.
