Throughout my years as a nurse in the intensive care unit at a level one trauma center, I've had an up-close-and-personal view of so many people's worst moments. Over time, I realized that being the constant caregiver was taking an emotional toll on me. Helping people has always been my passion, and therefore I was desperate to find solutions to care for myself so that I could continue caring for others well. I needed to unburden my mind and remove the weight from my soul. As a result, I began a journal, including written words and artistic expressions about my own experiences caring for the critically ill. My journey to find inner peace set in motion a chain of events that began with unburdening myself, but also shed light on the fact that resources for the mental well-being of nurses in general is lacking. Therefore, I decided to write this book, honoring nurses for what they go through every day. Hopefully, the content will serve to stimulate some crucial conversations about overall mental health in the nursing profession.
