Book excerpt: The purpose of this study is twofold: to obtain greater insight into the factors that directly affect the use of the 2 official languages in the workplace and the nature of the challenges faced by Anglophones and Francophones with careers in the federal administration; and to identify the essential components of a workplace that respects the language rights of its employees, with a view to fostering the harmonious co-existence of both official languages on a daily basis. The study included a survey of federal public servants in Quebec; a survey of anglophone and francophone employees working at the head offices of 8 Crown corporations located in bilingual regions; and focus groups in the National Capital Region and Montreal.
