Book excerpt: Excerpt from The American Journal of the Medical Sciences, 1921, Vol. 161 Reference to any standard text Will lead to the inference that primary bronchopneumonia in adults is not a common disease. That it is the usual type of pneumonia in children is accepted as well as that terminal pneumonias are commonly of the catarrhal variety. But that bronchopneumonia is at all confined to the extremes 'of life, childhood and old age is, I believe, incorrect. It will be the purpose of this paper to present evidence indicating the frequency of this type of pneumonia, to discuss the several pathologic and clinical pictures that may be grouped under the generic heading of broncho or lobular pneumonia and their more serious compli cations.
