Book excerpt: Rituals become a key in empowering the users' bodies to express thoughts, emotions and memories in urban space. Therefore my approach highlights the power of `bodies' in space and reflects a participatory quality. It is the user's body that understands the `text' as well as the `textures' of the city, that is, the city at both macro and micro scales. Thus, the thesis moves beyond an opposition that decries macro and praises micro views, or vice versa. It offers the process of rhythmanalysis as a way to overlay and juxtapose the varied views of the city in order to understand and represent it.
